What does Steuerklasse mean?
The Steuerklasse (tax class) decides how much wage tax your employer deducts each month. There are classes I to VI.

The tax class only changes how much is deducted each month. The tax for the whole year only follows from the tax return.
The tax class can also affect other benefits, for example Elterngeld or Arbeitslosengeld. Get advice before you change it.
