What does Einladung mean?

With an Einladung (invitation), an office invites you to an appointment. At the Jobcenter and the Agentur für Arbeit, you must attend.

The Einladung states the day, the time and the place. It often also says what to bring.

If you do not come without an important reason, the Jobcenter can cut your benefit. The Agentur für Arbeit can impose a Sperrzeit (benefit block).

If you cannot come, for example because you are ill, get in touch beforehand. Send a Nachweis (proof), for example from your doctor.

You may bring a person you trust.

What you can do

Bring the Einladung, your ID and the documents it lists. Ask for a confirmation that you attended.

  • Termin A Termin is a fixed day and time when you should come to an office, a court or a doctor.
  • Mitwirkungspflicht If you apply for or receive social benefits, you have a Mitwirkungspflicht (duty to cooperate). You must help the office check your case.
  • Nachweis A Nachweis is a document that proves something, for example your income, your rent or your address.
