What does Termin mean?

A Termin is a fixed day and time when you should come to an office, a court or a doctor.

A Termin is not the same as a Frist (deadline). With a Frist, you must do something by a certain day. With a Termin, you must be there at exactly that time.

Many offices only give appointments online or by phone. Without a Termin, you are often not served.

If you cannot come, cancel as early as possible and ask for a new Termin. For an Einladung (invitation) from the Jobcenter, give an important reason.

Ihr Termin: 15.10.2026 um 10:00 Uhr in Raum 3.12.

Your Termin: 15.10.2026 at 10:00 in room 3.12.

What you can do

Arrive a few minutes early. Bring your ID, the letter and the documents it lists.

  • Einladung With an Einladung (invitation), an office invites you to an appointment. At the Jobcenter and the Agentur für Arbeit, you must attend.
  • Frist A Frist is the time within which you must do something, for example reply or file a Widerspruch.
  • Mitwirkungspflicht If you apply for or receive social benefits, you have a Mitwirkungspflicht (duty to cooperate). You must help the office check your case.
