What does Vorauszahlung mean?
A Vorauszahlung (advance tax payment) is a payment in advance towards a tax that is only calculated exactly later.

The Finanzamt sets advance payments if it expects you to owe more tax. This often happens with self-employed people or with rental income.
The dates and amounts are in the notice. You usually pay every three months.
If you earn less than expected, you can apply to lower the advance payments.
