What does Einschreiben mean?
An Einschreiben is a registered letter: the post records when it was sent and when it arrived.

With an Einwurf-Einschreiben, the post notes when it put the letter into the mailbox.
The post only hands over an Übergabe-Einschreiben against a signature. If the letter is sent with a Rückschein (return receipt), the sender gets this signature back.
If an office sends a Bescheid by Einschreiben, the deadline often counts from a fixed day after sending. With a Rückschein, the day the post handed over the letter counts.
You can also send important letters by Einschreiben. That makes it easier to prove that your letter arrived. But it is not faster than a normal letter.
