What does Anlage mean?
An Anlage is an extra sheet or document that belongs to a letter or an application.

Below a letter, there is often the word Anlage or Anlagen (enclosures) and a list. That shows you what should come with the letter.
If an Anlage is missing, ask the office. It often contains important things, for example how a Bescheid was calculated.
Forms are sometimes called Anlage too, for example the Finanzamt's Anlage N for income from employment.
When you send documents yourself, list them as Anlagen below your letter.
