What does Pfändungsschutzkonto mean?

A Pfändungsschutzkonto, or P-Konto for short, protects part of your money from seizure every month.

You can use the protected amount despite a seizure, for example for rent and food.

Your bank must turn your current account into a P-Konto if you ask. Each person may have only one P-Konto.

If you have children or receive certain benefits, more can be protected. For this you need a Bescheinigung (certificate), for example from a debt advice centre or the Familienkasse.

Protected money you do not need in one month can usually be carried over into the next months.
