What does Anmeldung mean?
Anmeldung (registration) means you register your new address at the Bürgeramt. This is compulsory when you move into a home.

Register soon after moving in. People who do it too late can get a Bußgeld (fine).
You need your passport or ID and a confirmation from your landlord. It is called Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
After registering, you get a Meldebescheinigung. After your first registration in Germany, your Steuer-ID also comes by post.
