What does Aufenthaltstitel mean?
An Aufenthaltstitel (residence permit) allows you to live in Germany. It is often a card, the electronic residence permit.

There are different kinds, for example the Aufenthaltserlaubnis, the Niederlassungserlaubnis and the Blaue Karte EU.
The permit says how long it is valid and whether you may work.
Most permits are only valid for a certain time. Apply to the Ausländerbehörde for an extension in good time before it expires.
If you applied for the extension in time, you often get a Fiktionsbescheinigung. It has its own expiry date and must then be extended.
