What does Finanzgericht mean?

The Finanzgericht (tax court) decides disputes with the Finanzamt, and with the Familienkasse about Kindergeld.

You usually have to file an Einspruch first. Only after the Einspruchsentscheidung (decision on the objection) can you sue.

A lawsuit at the tax court can cause court costs. If you have little money, ask about Prozesskostenhilfe.

The lawsuit usually does not stop the payment. For that, there is the Aussetzung der Vollziehung (suspension of enforcement).

Get advice before suing, for example from a tax adviser or an income tax help association (Lohnsteuerhilfeverein).

  • Finanzamt The Finanzamt (tax office) is the office for taxes. It checks your tax return and sends you the Steuerbescheid.
