What does Wohngeld mean?
Wohngeld (housing benefit) is a subsidy towards your rent or the costs of your own home. It is for people with a low income.

You apply at the Wohngeldstelle (housing benefit office) of your city or municipality. It is paid from the month you apply, not for the time before.
People who get benefits from the Jobcenter or the Sozialamt usually do not get Wohngeld. Their housing costs are already included there.
Wohngeld is usually granted for twelve months. After that, you apply again.
