What does Eigenbedarf mean?

Eigenbedarf (personal use) means the Vermieter needs the flat for themselves, family members or household members. That is why they end your tenancy.

The Kündigung must be in writing and say who will move in and why. If this is missing, it may be invalid.

The notice period is longer the longer you have lived there.

If moving out would be a special hardship for you, for example because of illness or age, you can object. This has to be done in writing and early enough before the tenancy ends.

What you can do

Do not move out too quickly. Have the Kündigung checked by a tenants' association or a Rechtsanwalt.
