What does Ladung mean?

A Ladung (summons) is a request from a court or office to come to an appointment, for example a hearing.

The summons states the day, the time, the place and what it is about.

If it says that your personal attendance is ordered, you must come. Otherwise a fine can follow.

If you cannot come, write to the court immediately and give the reason. Enclose proof.

What you can do

Bring the summons, your ID and all papers about the case. Allow time for the security check at the entrance.

  • Zeuge A Zeuge (witness) tells a court or the police what they saw or heard.
  • Urteil An Urteil (judgment) is a court's decision at the end of proceedings, usually after a hearing.
  • Sozialgericht The Sozialgericht (social court) decides disputes with the Jobcenter, the Krankenkasse, the Rentenversicherung and other social benefit bodies.
  • Amtsgericht The Amtsgericht (local court) is a court close to where you live. It handles, for example, smaller disputes about money, rental matters and family matters.
